Hello to all my wonderful readers! You may have noticed (or maybe not) that my website's gotten a bit of a much-needed facelift. Yay! It's definitely been a long time coming. I will try my best to keep it up to date and start blogging a bit more, even if it's completely unrelated to books.
So it's been a while since I posted a blog on my old website so what I have been up to?
Well, I had a baby at the end of 2015. Little Harper Leigh joined the world at 12:39 AM on December 24th. After that, it's been a wild crazy ride getting adjusted to life with a newborn. I used to be able to work 16 hours a day, now I'm lucky to work 16 hours a week (although now I have a few nannies to help out 4 days a week so that's a HUGE help).
I finished my rough draft of my next release, The Other Side Of Someday, in early December. My goal was to have the rough draft completed before I went into labor, and I'm glad I did. But getting back to revise, revise, and revise was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Having a kid takes up a lot of time and, normally the revision process takes me about a month before sending it off to my betas, this time it took 3 months.
I was originally hoping to release The Other Side Of Someday in May, but I've pushed it back a little. But good news! It now has an official release date of JUNE 6TH so mark your calendars.
Now, the next question I get whenever I set a release date... Pre-orders. Here's the scoop:
This book is not currently available for pre-order. My goal is to put it up for pre-order by mid-May for the following e-retailers: iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Google Play. There WILL NOT be a pre-order on Amazon. This is a quality control issue. Unfortunately, Amazon has a not so stellar track record in distributing the wrong file to those who have pre-ordered. It's happened to me in the past and I'm not willing to risk it happening again. Instead, I'll be manually hitting publish and will be hitting refresh like crazy waiting for this book to go live. I kind of miss that excitement, don't you?
That all sounds normal, right? Of course. But here's where things change up a bit. To preface this, I love and cherish all of my readers, regardless of whether you have hundreds of dollars to spend on books each month, or all you can afford is the $10 monthly subscription to Kindle Unlimited. And that got me thinking. I wanted to find a way to have a new release where anyone could read it, regardless of budget so I came up with a plan.
Like I mentioned, The Other Side of Someday will be available for pre-order at all e-retailers except amazon in Mid-May. It will be available everywhere, including Amazon, on June 6th. On June 8th, it will be taken off all e-retailers other than Amazon so I can enroll it in KDP Select for 90 days, which would make it part of the Kindle Unlimited program. This is the best possible way I could come up with to make this book available for EVERYONE, regardless of whether you read on Nook, Kobo, iPad, Kindle and whether you can afford to buy dozens of books a week or whether you're on a tight budget and can only afford the monthly Kindle Unlimited Subscription.
Some of you may not like this decision, but this is my try at being all-inclusive from the start. This is one of the main reasons I've chosen to stay Indie. I like being able to control how to release my books. I apologize if this upsets anyone, but I'm not taking away anyone's ability to buy and enjoy this book. If you read on anything other than Kindle, you'll have the option to pre-order in mid-May so that you don't miss out on getting this book on your device on release day.
Thanks for all your support over the years and I'm so excited about what this year will bring. I've certainly stepped out of my comfort zone in writing The Other Side Of Someday and I have a feeling I'll keep pushing my boundaries over the months and years to come.
